STEEL
ATTACK
They started
out in 1995 with a band named "Mayer's Eve". Back then Steve was playing
the drums and Mayer's Eve, had the following line up: Steve - Drums, Dennis
- Guitar, and there where 3 more as well but none of them continued to
play music. Since it was so hard to find available musicians (that where
not involved with to many other bands) then the band started looking for
a new drummer instead of Steve, who told the other members that he got
in contact with a drummer in another band that was falling apart, so Andreas
de Vera got to be the drummer.
Now the year is 1997 and the band changed the name from Mayer's Eve to
Steel Attack because they wanted to start out fresh again. The band was
actually working with the following line up: Steve Steel - Vocal and Bass,
Dennis Westman - Guitar, Mike Böhlin - Guitar and Andreas de Vera - Drums.
But Mike had to quit for lack of time, so now it was February 1998 and
the band was a 3 piece band till the end of May when they asked John Allan
to join them as the lead guitar player for Steel Attack.
John played in a other band till Mars 1998 but he got tired of playing
covers (easiest way to get gigs, sad but true) so he quit the cover band
just to get back to writing own songs and to play in a band that was writing
fast and melodic metal original songs. That was perfect for him to join
with Steel Attack.
The band sent a demo to 6 record labels and within 5 days they got the
first response from one and within 2 weeks the band got answers from the
rest. After some time they decided to deal and sign for AFM Records in
June 1998.
So next step was the recording of the album "Where Mankind Fails" in the
Studio Underground between the dates 25 Sept - 16 October 1998. And the
choir and final mix was done 4 January - 11 January 1999 and the release
date 21 June 1999.
But Andreas de Vera left the band and went back to his studies two weeks
before the release. He already told the band that in May but wasn't too
sure if he should do that or not. But to let the band be prepared for
that they started rehearse with a new drummer Roger Raw. Roger became
the new drummer for Steel Attack.
So the line up now was: Steve Steel on Vocal + Bass, Dennis Westman Guitar,
Roger drums and John Allan lead guitar.
The story continues: The 2: nd album "Fall into Madness" was recorded
as the first one in Studio Underground in May 2000, but the release didn't
took place until over a year later in June 2001.
Roger left the band 4 Nov 2000 cause he got no time for being in a band,
because he was a single parent and had a hard time to find time for rehearsals
etc. Then they got in touch with Andreas again who actually moved back
to the hometown. So at this state Steel Attack was back in the original
line up.
They got a change in the Steel Attack story again when Steve decided to
quit the lead vocal and they got hold of the new lead singer, Dick Johnson
early 2001. Next change that the band felt was coming was that Steve left
the band to focus on drums with Carnal Forge. Steve left the band in just
a week before Carnal did Wacken Open Air 2001.
After some auditions the band find the replacement for Steve's bass and
back vocal in bass player Patrick Späth in September 2001.
The band had change in the line-up again in the end of 2001, and this
time Andreas decided to leave Steel Attack and quit playing drums as well.
So some auditions later the band got to be complete line-up with the drummer
Mike Stark.
The band did several gigs with everything from US to Europe to the Sweden
Rock Festival 2002. The lineup: John, Dennis, Dick Johnson on vocal, Mike
Stark Drums and Patrick Späth on bass/back vocal.
The band signed for Arise Metal and recorded the 3: rd album "Predator
of the Empire" in November 2002 and the release of the album were in May
2003. The band did the cover song Dr. Stein for the Helloween cover album
as the first recording for Arise Records.
Next and so far the last change in the story of Steel Attack:
Dick was the first one that had to leave because he didn't focus on the
band as much as it took to get the band working, so after some contacts
with other bands they finally got hold of the lead vocalist Ronny Hemlin
(Lack of Faith) and he joined the band in the end of 2003.
Just a few rehearsals later, they took a serious talk about the situation
in the band regarding rehearsals etc, so Patrick took the first step to
tell all in the band that the best for the band and the situation was
that if he left, so he did, and in the same Dennis quit as well, he was
to tired of getting back to audition a new bass player and start over
again.
Just a few minutes after they left the rehearsal studio then John called
his old friend Johan Jalonen (Asperity) to be the new guitar player for
the band, later that evening in January 2004 the band where John, Mike
and the new lead vocalist Ronny and Johan on guitar. So in the very beginning
of February they decided to not continue with the songs that Patrick and
Dennis where involved in and to start fresh from the first day.
So within a few months they had the songs made for the new album "Enslaved"
and now finally the band seems to be more as a unit than it ever was.
They recorded the new album in a different studio this time, the studio
was Black Lounge Studio owned by the lead vocalist Jonas Kjellgren (Carnal
Forge) just to even more get a new sound of the band as it will be noticeable
on the new album, the recording took place between the 19th April to the
end of May 2004. "Enslaved" was mastered by Peter In de Betou (Hypocrisy)
The album Enslaved will be out in October 2004.
